It's been a while since we've done any beer testing. But being back home in August, what else is there to do but bbq and drink beer?
Name: Asahi "The Master" Pilsner
Origin: Tokyo, Japan
Alcohol: 5.5%
Price: USD2.55/can USD0.73/100mL
Will anyone be able to top the score of 8.95/10, or will Asahi take its 10th straight win?
Name: Molson Canadian
Origin: Vancouver, B.C., Canada
Alcohol: 5%
Price: USD2.01/can USD0.57/100mL
It's only fitting that this Canadian beer that we grew up on is our 'Century Beer':
Our 100th beer tested!
Challenger 2
Name: Pacific Western Brewing Co. Pacific Pilsner
Origin: Prince George, B.C., Canada
Alcohol: 5%
Price: USD1.30/can USD0.37/100mL
Slightly floral scent, but pretty fizzy and not much flavour. Probably ok for drinking all day outside on the patio - i.e., light and you won't get bloated. Final score 6/10.
Name: Heineken
Origin: Holland
Alcohol: 5%
Price: USD2.29/can USD0.69/100mL
It's not a beer that we normally buy in Canada, but there was one in the fridge for some reason. It's a bit sharp, but surprisingly not bad. Didn't really have that skunky smell that Heineken is known for. Final score 7.15/10.
Name: Samuel Adams Boston Lager
Origin: United States
Alcohol: 5%
Price: USD2.12/bottle USD0.60/100mL
Nice golden colour with a hint of caramel flavour. A little fizzy for an amber beer. Final score 6.6/10.
Name: Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale
Origin: United States
Alcohol: 5.9%
Price:
The bottle reads "A hearty rich brownish-red ale, with roasted caramel and chocolate malts, and spiced with a touch of cinnamon, ginger, and orange." (which we didn't taste any of, btw).. A nice creamy foam on the pour. A little bit too hoppy for my liking, and a bit more bite than expected. Seemed more like a winter ale. Final score 4.85/10.
Name: Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock
Origin: United States
Alcohol: 5.8%
Price:
Dark chocolate in colour with a nice cream coloured foam on the pour. Pretty smooth chocolatey flavour, but a bit of a weird aftertaste. Final score 5.45/10.
Apart from the home town favourite putting up a respectable showing, no one came close to knocking off the Asahi. "The Master" Pilsner wins 10 in a row!
